September is childhood cancer awareness month. Adler has gotten to do some amazing things with some very amazing people and one of them was cook with Sean Kelley of Temper Grille – Granger !! Who has become like an extended family member now!! You’re stuck with us Sean!!! And Chef Frank at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Adler made some pretty delicious crab cakes!!! We’ve been so blessed to have some pretty awesome people become extended family members because of Adler. It makes our lives just that much bigger and his battle that much stronger when you have the amazing love and support like we have!!! But never did we imagine it would be because he has cancer. We will always be thankful for such a community of great people surrounding us in reality or virtually!! Here at home and at our second home in Chicago!!!!

He was sick the day after chemo. The vomiting would hurt him so bad. It was violent looking and he would often need my assistance because of the pain. I would almost have to force him forward because he would arch back in pain and the vomit would not go in the bucket but all over him. He would usually require morphine to aide in the pain while already on a fentynal patch. And zofran every 4 hours for ar least 48 hours post chemo. I hate that alarm sound to this day. He was so uncomfortable that I was afraid to move him and he was to weak to get up so I sat with him on the floor and I ended up laying with him crying. Finally I picked him up and put him on the couch with his heating pad and covered his skin and bones body with a blanket and tucked my feet under it and I put cartoons on but we didn’t watch them, we just laid together. Too many days were spent like this. Too many. Too many children know this life and the parents along with them. Our children deserve better. Only 4% of all cancer research funding goes towards childhood cancer. It’s not enough. 46 children are diagnosed a day and 7 die a day. That’s ridiculous. And so sad. Too sad. September is childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Be aware.
