Focused. Determined. You can see it in his face. In pain. His neck was hurting. He hasn’t done more than 2 minutes yet. Today he did 5 minutes!!! He did it. On his own. His therapist didn’t give him a time. He chose 5 minutes. Adler is my hero!!

The photo finish. Adler’s entire left side is weak from his spinal tumors, chronic pain and his cervical spinal biopsy. His legs have high tone (tightness) from who the hell knows. Running has been hard for him basically forever. But the past three years especially from his pain in his legs that lead him to use a wheelchair and a walker even to help him up running let alone walking was so difficult. Then after his surgery he lost the use of his arms but his pain was better so walking wasn’t as hard. What a shit trade off!!But running…… running hasn’t happened in a very long time. Not without consequences like pain. His stamina too is super low and those three races and playing with his cousins left him exhausted today but he said “it was worth it”. The fun and laughter and enjoyment was wonderful to watch!!! Life. Even when it sucks, it’s so worth it!!! Don’t take one step, one stride for granted. Not one. It’s all a gift!!! I needed this reminder. We all do.
