6 years ago today we were here in Chicago staying at the Hilton just a couple blocks from Lurie for Adler’s MRI. We we’re terrified. He still wasn’t stable and we weren’t sure he’d have another Christmas. Sounds dramatic but it was true. He was still in so much pain and on heavy narcotics for that pain. And chemo was really kicking his ass. So not only is ever single damn day special that we have with him, but you betcha I’m gonna make his holiday season as magical as I can. Every single year!!!! And today he goes for another MRI. My goodness he’s had so many. And many to go. Every day and every breath is cherished. πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

✳️First set is from his cervical spinal biopsy surgery. They were taken about a month post op in August of 2019. You know the one where he lost the use of his arms. ✳️Second set is from his cervical spinal decompression and fusion done Oct. 29th 2020. Pics taken in November and Dec.3rd. Both very intricate and major surgeries. Both also life saving. Adler. Is. A. Badass.🦸

Thanks to Adler’s teacher Mr. Larry Brummet for sending me these pictures today. I cried in happiness because he’s there. At school, his happy place!!!! He’s excited every morning to go!!!! And I cried in sadness as he’s lost SO much of his childhood to cancer. And from the pain caused by his cancer. So much pain. I know we try to focus on the good and we do but often it’s hard to truly feel it because there’s so much anguish left over. We are constantly recovering from cancer hangovers. It sucks. But. Look at him!!!! That’s one tough kid right there!!! Our son. I love him so much!!! The one and only Adler Bear Carris!!! Bold As Love!!!! πŸ…°οΈπŸŒˆπŸ’™βš“
